Ford V6 Diesel Engines Essential Bolt Tightening Torques 1993-2003

 

Ford V6
Main Bearing Cap Stud/Bolts


Mains 1, 2 and 3
85 to 91 lb.ft, 115 to 123 Nm

Rear main
81 to 88, 109 to 119 Nm

Ford V6
Connecting Rod Bolts


Step 1 = 85 to 91 lb.ft, 115 to 123 Nm
Step 2 = + 90 degrees

Ford V6
Cylinder Head Bolts


Step 1 = 168 in.lb, 19 Nm
Step 2 = 29 lb.ft, 39 Nm
Step 3 = 36 lb.ft, 49 Nm
Step 4 = Loosen 3 turns

(DO NOT loosen all the bolts at the same time, from this point on work on one bolt at a time)
(see Section 7 of workshop manual)

Step 5
Long bolts = 30 to 36 lb.ft, 41 to 49 Nm
Short bolts = 15 to 22 lb.ft, 20 to 30 Nm

Step 6 (all bolts) = + 175 to 185 degrees

Main Bearing Cap Bolts


Main bearing cap bolts
(tighten first)

Step 1 = 30 lb.ft, 40 Nm
Step 2 = + 90 degrees

Main bearing cap - jack screws
(REP engines only, tighten second)

Step 1 = 44 in.lb, 5 Nm
Step 2 = 89 in.lb, 10 Nm

Main bearing cap - side bolts
(tighten third)


REP Engines
Step 1 = 89 in.lb, 10 Nm
Step 2 = 14 to 17 lb.ft, 19 to 23 Nm

WEP Engines
Step 1 = 22 lb.ft, 30 Nm
Step 2 = + 90 degrees

Ford V8 Connecting Rod Bolts

Step 1 = 29 to 33 lb.ft, 39 to 45 Nm
Step 2 = + 90 to 120 degrees

Ford V8 Cylinder Head Bolts

Step 1 = 30 lb.ft, 40 Nm
Step 2 = + 90 degrees
Step 3 = + 90 degrees
